Playing with Art, Patti Belbin

I have found that when I have finished a run of productivity I need a break. I may not create anything or even think about art for days or weeks at a time. I need to move beyond what I have just finished, rest and recharge. New ideas will fill my brain and then it's time to play. Playing seems to be my bridge from one set of work to the next. During this experimental time, I avoid using my primary medium, oil and cold wax. Acrylics, pastels and oils with various additives applied in new ways on a variety of substrates fill my imagination and my workspace. Some go one to be used in other works and some become finished pieces in their own right. I encourage everyone to take some time to play.

Painting at the Studio

Debbie and I were working at the studio this last Thursday, and this is the painting I decided to create (from a photo of my Poppy plant in bloom last year), for the WMSE Auction Fundraiser later this summer which will be held at the Pritzlaff Center in the Third Ward.  The Martini Girls have participated in this fundraiser for the last 4 years, and it's always a fun event!

Recent work and meanderings.

 Had a wonderful day at the studio today.  We, Patti Belbin, Debbie Callahan, Erico Ortiz and I had the gallery open from 10 to 2pm, for our show "Martini Girls, Shaken and Stirred".  Anita Burgermeister and her mother, Elsa, were among those who stopped by to visit and see the show. Among my pieces at the show are:

                                                      Purple Iris; Watercolor; 12x9

                                                      Tulip Bunch; Pastel; 16x12

Yellow headed Blackbird; Watercolor;
                                                      8x6
There is only next Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, to come see this fun and eclectic exhibit at Inspiration Studios, 1500 S. 73rd St. in West Allis, .

This work was for a show called "Transitions" and is my response to all the deaths I've experienced and how it has affected me.
